Gubi - The classics of tomorrow
Founded in 1967, the family company Gubi is known for daring as well as elegant collections of furniture, lamps and furnishings all over the world. In cooperation with established designers, not only traditional designs from the past are taken up, but also the classics of tomorrow are designed.
Originally founded by his parents with a focus on producing their own furniture designs and retailing textiles, current owner and creative director Jacob Gubi focuses on both collaborating with respected designers and discovering emerging talent in the global design scene.
The headquarters with modern loft showroom as well as the GUBI Flagship Store are located in Copenhagen and reflect the atmospheric product range of Gubi, which spans almost 100 years of history and is now sold all over the world.
With attention to detail
Gubi's various products not only pay attention to the quality of materials, but some are made using traditional craftsmanship. For example, the MR01 Initial Chair armchair comes without any screws at all, but is made with artisanal joinery techniques such as finger joints. In addition, emphasis is placed on the use of natural materials. The seat and backrest of the MR01, for example, is made of 90 meters of linen cord, which is hand-woven.
In general, Gubi works with the help of a combination of modern technology and production methods as well as traditional handwork. A good example of this is the well-known classic, the Beetle Chair. While the shell of the chair is precisely shaped using the latest machines, the contours of the chair are reworked by hand for softer edges. The upholstery fabrics and leather are also individually inspected beforehand to ensure premium quality.
Gubi also acts in an exemplary manner when it comes to recycling. The durable products can be disassembled and sorted into its individual parts for hassle-free recycling. Gubi also ensures that 100% of its wood products are manufactured in accordance with the EUTR and all wood composites are TSCA certified. For metal products and finishes, Gubi works with suppliers that are REACH certified.
