Belgian design from the hop field: Hopper Picnic Bench by Extremis
Picnics and beer festivals stand for conviviality, good friends, happy laughter and a good time with nice people. Exactly this environment was the inspiration for the Hopper Picnic Bench. When designing it, designer Dirk Wynants quickly recognised the well-known problem: typical beer sets make sitting down and standing up very awkward. So the question was: how could access be made easier and more relaxed? A functional solution was needed. And Extremis delivered.
The silhouette of the table is based on the unmistakable hop fields of the Belgian region "Westhoek". The curved legs of the Hopper bench provide lowered, easy entry points. Awkward stepping over people at the table is a thing of the past. In combination with the sloping bench corners, Hopper invites you to simply sit down and remain comfortably seated for a long time. Whether with friends or relatives, with colleagues at a brainstorming session or during the lunch break - Hopper fits every situation and occasion.
The aluminium or steel legs in combination with class I hardwoods ensure a long service life for the material, while the permanently attached benches offer pure aesthetics at all times. It is hardly surprising that the Hopper Picnic Bench is already considered a classic among outdoor furniture and has already won many design awards, such as the Red Dot, IF, Good Design or Interior Innovation.
Material and format
The Hopper Picnic Bench ties in with the recognisability of the long beer tables, but at the same time offers more comfort. Thanks to the four entry points, it is no longer necessary to climb over benches or table mates when sitting down. The table legs and the table edge are bevelled. If you want to turn around, you can use the table top as an ideal backrest.
The frame of hot-dip galvanised steel encloses the tabletop and seat, for which you can choose between Iroko (tropical hardwood) and Hellwood (thermally treated, 100 % PEFC). For the legs and backrest, you can choose hot-dip galvanised steel or powder-coated structural aluminium.
Hopper Picnic is 74 cm high and 163 cm deep in total. In terms of width, you can choose between 180, 240, 300 and 360 cm, depending on your needs. This means that the smallest version can seat four people and the largest even up to ten.
