Happy Family: Wooden Dolls by Vitra
An extensive collection of human and animal figurines made of wood - the Wooden Dolls by Vitra are so different in appearance and yet they have a lot in common as a family: they are made of fir wood and are hand-painted!Alexander Girard designed them in 1953 as decoration for his own house in Santa Fe. These originals are in the Vitra Design Museum and serve as the model for the new re-edition. The hand-painting results in subtle variations that make each wooden figure a unique and individual specimen.
Alexander Girard
Alexander Girard is known as a formative figure in post-war American design. The American was born in 1907. Girard originally studied architecture, but in the course of his career he worked as a furniture, graphic, exhibition and interior designer. Textile design was a focal point of his work. Abstract, geometric forms and a variety of colour constellations are examples of his work.
Material and size
The Wooden Dolls are made of solid fir wood and lovingly hand-painted. They are delivered in a high-quality printed wooden box with a brochure.
