Versatile: Ulm stool from wb form
Whether seating furniture, side table or shelving element, transport container, serving tray or table centrepiece - a stool has never been more versatile! the Ulm Stool was designed in 1954 by Max Bill, the first rector of the Ulm School of Design.
Contrary to the wear-and-tear economy
Max Bill's wooden furniture follows the credo that functionality should be in harmony with material and design economy and that the designs must fulfil not only formal but also aesthetic requirements. This is understandable when you consider the period in which the Ulm stool was created: the economic upturn of the post-war period and the memory of the war years were significant for the development of Max Bill's wooden furniture.
Like some other designers of the time, Max Bill took a clear stance: he frowned upon designs that served solely commercial goals and thus favoured fashionable trends and a wear-and-tear economy.
With its versatility and its clear and robust design, however, the Ulm Stool is a piece of furniture that will endure.
Material and format
The designer stool is 39.5 cm wide, 29.5 cm deep and 44 cm high. It can be loaded with a weight of up to 156 kg. It is available in nine different versions:
- Unvarnished spruce and beech wood
- Birch varnished in colour (black, lemon yellow, bright orange, fire red, dark blue, sky blue and apple green)
- american walnut lacquered
