Good times for the environment: Tip Ton RE Chair Dark grey Vitra
Used packaging forms the basis for the recycled version of the Tip Ton by Vitra. Compared to crude oil-based primary plastic, the use of this raw material produces 54% fewer climate-damaging emissions and the consumption of primary energy can be significantly reduced. A small proportion of glass fibre also makes the chair particularly stable.
Design duo Barber & Osgerby
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby (both born in 1969) studied architecture and interior design together at the Royal College of Art in London. They founded their own architecture and design studio, Barber Osgerby, in 1996. Together they work at the interface of architecture, industrial and furniture design.
Environmentally conscious design for the future: the new RE collection
From January 2024, Vitra will be focussing on sustainability by producing all seat shells for the Eames Plastic Chairs from recycled post-consumer plastic . The seat shells will have minimal glass fibre reinforcement for stability and quality, with the glass fibre content of an Eames Plastic Chair RE seat shell being 10%. The use of recycled packaging waste gives the seat shells minimal colour pigmentation.
Material and format
Tip Ton RE is 100% recyclable and can be stacked up to four chairs high. It is made from recycled polypropylene and is 78.6 cm high, 55.5 cm deep and 50.9 cm wide. It has a seat height of 46.2 cm. Due to the processing of recycled materials, the chair may show colour irregularities.
