Description
Colourful shine: Spark lounge chair Outdoor by Knoll
Summer is approaching and you still lack the right outdoor furniture? Or you just want to bring a bit of colour to your balcony, terrace or garden? Then the Spark Lounge Chair is just the thing for you! Designed by Don Chadwick, the plastic chair brings great energy to any indoor or outdoor space with its bright colours and unique personality. Despite the sometimes bright colour variations, the chair is pleasing to the eye thanks to its simple design. It offers the perfect balance of design and utility, is versatile and extremely comfortable due to its casual dimensions.
Plastic chairs with personality
Knoll design director Benjamin Pardo called for a lightweight, stackable plastic chair. Don Chadwick, one of the world's leading ergonomics experts, was the perfect man for the job. He succeeded in bringing together maximum comfort and Knoll quality in a "plastic stacker" with the Spark series.
His focus was primarily on portability, stackability and easy storage - without losing sight of comfort. Each chair also has its own personality. The Spark Side Chair looks much lighter in scale and - typical of a side or dining chair - offers a more upright, attention-grabbing sitting position. The Lounge Chair, on the other hand, is lower, a little wider, a little deeper - perfect for lazing around.
Lord of the chairs: Don Chadwick
In the last few decades, Don Chadwick has pioneered the use of modern materials, moulding processes and mechanisms leading to cutting-edge products that have raised the standard for their market. A native of Southern California, he received his principal training in design at the University of California, Los Angeles. He then worked for architect Victor Gruen before establishing his own practice in 1964. In 1974, Chadwick designed Chadwick Modular Seating. In collaboration with William Stumpf, he designed the Equa 1 flexing-plastic chair in 1984. In 1994, the landmark Aeron chair catapulted Chadwick to national attention; the Industrial Designers Society of America and Business Week Magazine awarded Design of the Decade to the Aeron chair in 1999. Chadwick has received numerous awards over the past three and a half decades.
Chadwick’s relationship with Knoll marks a milestone in the career of an inventive designer. “I am gratified to be part of the Knoll legacy; I consider Knoll to be at the highest level of contemporary design, and our collaboration is a notable one for me.” With the Chadwick chair, he has proven himself as effective at bringing a product to market as he has been at creating the market itself.
Knoll International – A belief in modern design
In 1938, Knoll International was founded by Hans and Florence Knoll, who embraced the creative genius at the Bauhaus School and the Cranbrook Academy of Art to create new types of furniture and environments for the workplace. Their approach was to combine craftsmanship with technology through the use of design. Florence Knoll also developed the idea of the modern office and pioneered the interior design profession.
Knoll has been recognized internationally for creating workplace and residential furnishings that inspire, evolve, and endure. With its thoughtful, inventive products Knoll responds to individual work styles and transcends multiple generations. Knoll's commitment to modern, sustainable design and understanding of the workplace results in a unique portfolio. Here, the latest collections sit alongside modern classics and iconic products.
For more than 80 years now Knoll has remained true to the Bauhaus design philosophy that modern furniture should complement architectural space, not compete with it. Therefore, they use modern design to connect people to their work, their lives, their world. The essence of it all: modern living and working with a contemporary approach without losing a connection to the past.
Material and format
The Spark lounge chair not only shines indoors, but is also perfectly suited for outdoor use. It is light, robust and waterproof and provided with UV protection against the sun. In addition, the chair is super easy to clean.
The chair in the lounge variant has a back height of 77 cm. It is 65 cm wide and 64.5 cm deep. The seat height is 42 cm. Perfect to relax!

A white patina can form on the surface and colour changes can also occur on the material. In cold or rough weather, it is recommended to store the chairs indoors.
