Tirili: Songbird Georg by Kay Bojesen
Beautiful dark green plumage and beak and legs with a coating of silver leaf - the singing bird Georg by Kay Bojesen is not just beautiful to look at. It is a tribute to the former master Georg Jensen, with whom Kay Bojesen completed his training as a silversmith.
The songbird's appearance harmonises perfectly with the other songbirds in the Kay Bojesen collection.
Designer Kay Bojesen
The fine craftsman and designer Kay Bojesen has produced more than 2000 different designs over the course of his career. This makes him one of the most productive Danish craftsmen of the 20th century. In addition to the well-known and popular monkeys and other wooden animals, his work also includes jewellery, cutlery, teapots and silver goblets. Kay Bojesen initially trained as a silversmith with Georg Jensen. When his son Otto was born in 1919, Bojesen became interested in children's toys. He carved small wooden figures and finally focussed his interest entirely on working with wood in the 1930s. He deliberately did not want to create lifelike copies of animals, but rather imaginative variations with a soft and flowing design that originated in the imagination of children.
Material and format
The bird is made of painted FSC-certified beech wood. This means that the wood comes from a forest where no more trees are felled than the forest can reproduce. It also ensures that the people working in the forest are trained, have the right equipment and are paid a fair wage. The bird is 16 cm wide, 8 cm deep and 15.5 cm high.
