Fillable: Bowl oak large by Kay Bojesen

What a beautiful serving bowl - the Menageri series by Kay Bojesen includes numerous wooden elements for a well-set table. The bowl is composed of 5 cm thick sticks of FSC-certified oak wood, so that a uniform look is created and yet the diversity of the sticks is shown to advantage. This makes for a special and unique look.

Oak wood is a stylistic element in Scandinavian design. It can be found in many places in the home furnishing and is not only popular for large pieces of furniture, but also for small everyday objects such as the components of the Menageri series.

Designer Kay Bojesen

The fine craftsman and designer Kay Bojesen produced more than 2000 different designs in the course of his career. This makes him one of the most productive Danish craftsmen of the 20th century. Besides the well-known and popular monkeys and other wooden animals, his work also includes jewellery, cutlery, teapots and silver goblets. Kay Bojesen first completed an apprenticeship as a silversmith with Georg Jensen. With the birth of his son Otto in 1919, Bojesen became interested in children's toys. He carved small wooden figurines and finally focused his interest entirely on working with wood in the 1930s. He deliberately did not want to create lifelike copies of animals, but rather imaginative variations with a soft and flowing design that has its origins in the imagination of children.

Material and size

The bowl is made of oiled oak wood. It is 14.5 cm high and has a diameter of 24.5 cm. It is best cleaned with a dry cloth and protected from direct sunlight.
