Design at the highest level, the Americana floor lamp by Santa & Cole
Americana is one of the many legendary lamp series of the well-known Spanish designer Miguel Milá. The right angle defines the essential geometry of this series, which includes a table lamp, a floor lamp and a wall lamp, which you can also find in our shop.
The series Americana is a reinterpretation of a lamp that its designer created more than thirty years ago. The plexiglass shade in the shape of a real, old-fashioned American paraffin lamp was awarded a Delta de Oro prize and was Miguel Milá's pride and joy. So much so that he decided to renew the aging nickel base and revive the shape he had designed with such great success . The result is the Americana series, which in essence is the reinterpretation of a luminaire he had originally designed for the Hotel de Mar by Coderch in Palma de Mallorca.
The verticality of the cylindrical nickel stand is modulated by a right angle and articulated to extend the orientation of the light filtered by the shade. The round base supports a bare, clean, functional, geometric base with a strong sense of timelessness. This is one of the few works by Milá to use colour. As he says himself, "colour adds charm, but it shortens the life of an object".
The existing shades in blue or white Plexiglas are now joined by a new shade in the form of a short cone of natural linen. While the first version was reminiscent of oil or gas lamps adapted to electricity, this new shade is a tribute to the functional, rationalist, straight lines that characterise the designer's style.
The Americana series is available in three versions - floor, table and wall lamps - and embodies a quiet elegance that is designed to last rather than dazzle .
Material and format
The Americana floor lamp consists of a frame made of satin-finished nickel structure and a lampshade made of white linen. The total height of the lamp is 112 cm, the depth 52 cm. The base of the lights has a diameter of 33 cm. The lampshade is 15 cm high and measures 20 cm in diameter.
