Expressive: Sendai bookshelf by Casamania Horm
The Sendai Bookshelf by designer Toyo Ito expresses the essence of one of his most famous architectural projects on a small scale. Inspired by the tall, winding columns of the Sendai Media Library in Japan, the design of the shelf is also based on movement and the play of angles.
The special highlight of the sculptural furniture is therefore the turned wooden elements on which the shelves rest. Consisting of a mix of solid woods and varying in inclination and cross-section, they visually create movement and a play of light and shadow. The reflective surface of the shelves allows the bars to flow into one another, depending on the angle of view.
Material and format
The turned struts of the Sendai bookcase are made of solid alder wood as well as walnut and have been treated with oil. The six MDF shelves are veneered with polished aluminium.
The bookcase can be ordered in the following versions:
- A: W 124 x D 48 x H 193 cm
- B: W 192 x D 48 x H 193 cm
- C: W 192 x D 48 x H 193 cm (base partly free)
If you ever need more shelf space, you can easily extend your Sendai shelf with one of the other versions. Or you can combine several formats with each other to create an unusual wall installation that stylishly presents your favourite home accessories and other belongings.
