Belongs to: S 5000 upholstered part low by Thonet

The S 5000 series by Thonet is so versatile and flexible that it can be constantly reinterpreted. Designer James Irvine created the modular system as an interpretation of a sofa type that was already part of the Thonet program in the 1930s.

The minimalist sofa and armchair system is based on a base of bent tubular steel. It follows the modular principle: armrests and backrests of identical construction can be integrated into the seat frame or removed, as required. Thus, the possibilities of use are almost limitless: whether as an armchair, lounger, chaise longue or as a classic sofa - you decide!

Designer James Irvine

James Irvine was born in London and graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1984. He then moved to Milan where he worked as a design consultant for the Olivetti Design Studio under the direction of Michele De Lucchi. In 1988, he eventually founded his own design studio. In 2004 he was appointed Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts in London. He collaborates with various internationally renowned companies, including Arper, Artemide, B&B Italia, MDF Italia, Mercedes Benz, Muji, Olivari, Offecct, Phaidon, Thonet, WMF and Zumtobel.
