Description
From one piece: PK22 armchair by Fritz Hansen
The PK 25 armchair was designed in 1951 and was Kjærholm's final project at the School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen. Also known as the Element chair, the PK25 is a very fine example of the passion of the then still young designer in dealing with common, industrial materials.
Poul Kjærholm endeavoured to process the individual materials of the chair from one piece, which gives the designer seating furniture its typical touch: the complex, coherent frame is formed from a single piece of steel without seams or joints. A long flag rope wrapped around the seat and back of the curved steel frame emphasises the simplicity of the lounge chair.
Simple and yet so special, the PK25 becomes an eye-catcher in modern living spaces and also embellishes lounge and waiting areas.
Special chair design - Poul Kjærholm
Poul Kjærholm was a trained carpenter and continued his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He had a special interest in various building materials, especially steel, which he regarded with the same artistic refinement as other natural materials.
Poul Kjærholm was employed by Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he created a number of remarkable chair designs. In 1955 he began his collaboration with the manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, which lasted until Kjærholm's death in 1980. In 1982, Fritz Hansen took over the production and distribution of "The Kjærholm Collection", which was developed from 1951 to 1967 - designs that are logical down to the smallest detail and have an aura of exclusivity.
In 2007, Fritz Hansen added two new pieces to the Kjærholm Collection that had never been in production before: the PK8 chair and the PK58 dining table.
Material and format
The frame of the PK25 lounge chair is made of matt chromed spring steel.
The chair measures W 69 x D 73 x H 75 cm, the seat height is 40 cm.
The seat is made of flag rope, consisting of linen with a nylon core. This can be ordered in the colours natural and black.
