Description
Floating: PK24 chaise longue by Fritz Hansen
The PK24 chaise longue is one of the most recognizable seating pieces in Fritz Hansen's Poul Kjærholm collection. Inspired by the Rococo style and the French chaise longue ("long chair"), Kjærholm used steel to support a curvy, organic flowing form. He also based the size of the chaise on the French model.
He called the model a "hammock chair" to emphasize that it works by suspending the seat between two points. The lounger therefore has no physical connection between the main parts; gravity and friction set the tone.
The PK24 lounger's main appeal is its curved soft look, inviting you to relax. The included headrest provides the extra portion of comfort. The chaise longue looks particularly good in lounge or waiting areas, but also offers a place to relax in the office or living area.
Remarkable seating furniture: Poul Kjærholm
Poul Kjærholm was a skilled carpenter and continued his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He had a special interest in various building materials, especially steel, which he regarded with the same artistic delicacy as other natural materials.
Poul Kjærholm was employed by Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he created a number of remarkable chair designs. In 1955, he began his collaboration with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, which lasted until Kjærholm's death in 1980. In 1982 Fritz Hansen took over the production and distribution of "The Kjærholm Collection", which was developed from 1951 to 1967 - designs that are logical to the smallest detail and have an aura of exclusivity.
In 2007, Fritz Hansen added two new pieces to the Kjærholm Collection that had never been in production before: the PK8 chair and the PK58 dining table.
Material and format
The PK24 chaise longue can be ordered with wicker or leather upholstery, and both versions include a leather headrest. The seat and backrest hug the frame, which is curved into shape and made of satin-finished, brushed spring steel. The leather-covered head cushion with a stainless steel counterweight is adjustable to optimize seating comfort.
The lounger measures W 67 x D 155 x H 85 cm. The seat height is 14 cm.
The reclining surface of the PK24 can be ordered in the following leather variants:
- Aura: thickness 1,4-1,6 mm. Chrome-tanned, finished and hard-wearing surface with strong grain. High light fastness.
- Embrace: Thickness 1,2-1,4 mm. Chrome tanned, grained, exceptional soft aniline with special waxing for a slightly oily surface. Visible natural features (e.g. neck wrinkles).
- Grace: thickness approx. 1.4-1.6 mm. Vegetable & chrome tanned aniline leather, full grain, light texture and light impregnation. Becomes lighter with use and gets patin. Visible natural characteristics.
- Natural: thickness 1.2-1.4 mm. Vegetable-tanned, completely chrome-free natural leather without color or protective varnish. Darkens with use and acquires patina. Visible natural characteristics.
- Optical white: thickness 1.4-1.6 mm. Chrome tanned, full grain, finished, with light protective varnish. Please note that the white is more sensitive than other colors.
- Rustic: thickness 1.2-1.4 mm. Vegetable tanned, completely chrome-free aniline leather without protective varnish with a light impregnation and visible natural features. Becomes lighter with use and acquires patina.
- White: thickness 1.4-1.6 mm. Chrome tanned aniline leather, full grain with texture and protective varnish. Please note that the white is more sensitive than other colors.
You like it more discreet? Instead of the leather cover, you can also choose the reclining surface with natural wicker and a headrest in one of the above leather types.
