Piuma - that's the name of the eccentric armchair designed by Piero Lissoni for Kartell.
Nomen est omen
Or: "Nomina sunt consequentia rerum" as Latvians used to say. The name Piuma was not chosen by Piero Lissoni by chance for his chair creation. Instead, the word means something like "feather" - and in fact the Piuma chair weighs only 2.2 kg, almost feather-light.
Nevertheless, stability is not neglected because Kartell relies on a completely new and specially developed injection molding process for this chair. For the first time, it was possible to process a polymer complex with carbon fiber reinforcement by injection molding.
Thanks to these reinforcing fibers, it was possible to bring the seat to a minimum thickness of only 2 mm - and not lose any of its stability. So Piuma is not only lightweight, but also extremely stable and durable.
And since plastics are weatherproof, the designer chair Piuma by Kartell can even be taken outdoors.
Design
Piuma contains even more birdlike features than just the name "feather". The armrests, which seem to have grown out of the shell naturally, are wing-shaped. Harmonious, eccentric and never too intrusive - this is the best way to describe the design of the Piuma chair.
