Eye-catcher: The Pao Steel Pendant 350 lamp by Hay
With its simple appearance and at the same time striking high-gloss finish, this pendant lamp is a real eye-catcher, but fits perfectly into any ambience. Thanks to its special shape, the light source can be hidden inside the shade with a high-quality acrylic diffuser. This not only creates a soft and harmonious light, but also a seamless design.
The Pao Steel pendant lampshade is made of pressed powder-coated steel in a high-gloss look. The diameter is 35cm and the height measures 14.5cm. The cable consists of a silicone insulation, which is covered with braided fabric. The cable length is 400cm.
Pao lamp collection - appreciating natural beauty
Inspired by traditional nomad tents during his journey in Mongolia, the established Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa developed a shapely lamp collection called "Pao", as these tents are called in Japanese. They are intended to convey a feeling of familiar home and thus radiate atmospheric warmth and security. This aesthetic is based on everyday objects that already astonish in the natural world.
Designer Naoto Fukasawa
Naoto Fukasawa was born in Yamanashi in 1956. He studied design at the Tama Art University. Initially, he designed microelectronic devices and watches. He moved to the USA in the late 1980s and joined the international design and innovation consultancy IDEO. At that time, Fukasawa mainly designed computers and electronic devices for the then emerging Silicon Valley. After his return to Japan in 1996, he built up the IDEO office in Tokyo until he founded his own studio in 2003.
His original approach to design has found international acclaim. For him, a simple design symbolises the harmonious relationship between user and object. He has received many international awards, e.g. the title Honorable Royal Designer for Industry from the Royal Society of Arts in 2007.
