Description
An icon among chairs: Panton Chair by Vitra
Designed by Verner Panton in 1960, Vitra began series production as early as 1967. The Panton Chair revolutionised the furniture world in many ways, but above all through its unique shape and the fact that it was the first all-plastic chair. Its elegantly flowing yet expressive form makes the Panton Chair an icon of 20th century design. Design experts also recognised this and therefore awarded the cantilever chair designed by Verner Panton with numerous design prizes.Until today, the Panton Chair can be found in the collections of the most famous museums, for example in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.Designer and Visionary: Verner Panton
The famous designer, whose name the Panton Chair bears, had a great fascination for artificial materials throughout his life. It is therefore not surprising that he chose plastic as the material for the Panton Chair.Verner Panton's preference for strong colours and geometric shapes and curves is also expressed in this legendary cantilever chair. With the Panton Chair, the designer has succeeded in skilfully walking the tightrope between form, material and colour.Panton Classic and Panton Chair
Verner Panton's vision was always to create a plastic chair completely made of one piece. This was only achieved in 1999, when the injection moulding process made it possible to produce the Panton Chair completely from hard-wearing polypropylene. Coloured through with a matt surface - that is the Panton Chair as we know it and as it was intended by Verner Panton, namely a thoroughly affordable industrial product with design character. The Panton Classic, on the other hand, is made of hard foam, plastic and has a glossy lacquer finish. Since the production method of the Panton Classic is more complicated, it is offered at a considerably higher price.- Note: Please note that the Panton Chair has a new height since 2021. Instead of 83 cm as before, the design chair is now 86 cm high. -More - Dimensions / Infos
