Recycling wonder: Ocean Chair Outdoor Chair Mater
An outdoor chair that is a design icon in Denmark and is now also causing storms of enthusiasm in sustainability circles? Mater's Ocean Chair perfectly combines the themes of design and recycling. Ocean stands for sustainable and innovative thinking and was awarded the Wallpaper Award at the beginning of 2019.
The Ocean Chair is available in black and grey. If there is no will to make a decision, it is advisable to simply order both versions.
Material and size
What is the pretty Ocean Chair made of? Made of 80 % Oceanix! Never heard of it? Oceanix is what floats around in the sea, but should not be there, that is, plastic waste. A single Ocean chair contains 960 grams of it - discarded fishing nets and recycled hard plastic. This corresponds to a CO2 saving of 1.6 kilograms. The frame is made of burnished steel.
The outdoor chair is 60 cm wide, 81 cm high and 56 cm deep. The seat height is a comfortable 46 cm.
Design
The chair is a Danish design classic. Jørgen & Nanna Ditzel designed the outdoor chair in 1955. Nanna Ditzel was born in Copenhagen in 1923 and was a furniture, textile and jewellery designer. Many of her designs were awarded the Lunning Prize, for example. Jørgen Ditzel was an architect and Nanna Ditzel's first husband. Together they were a real design dream team.
