Art and Design: Khokesi Floor Lamp Pulpo
What an appearance! Kokeshi looks like a sculpture shining in perfect beauty. The design floor lamp by Pulpo is a masterpiece! The Japan-affine designer Kai Linke transforms the traditional kokeshi dolls to bathe their characteristic slender, round-oval shape in a special light. The carved figures stylised into lights also have their own signature, thanks to their hand-modelled standing base made of ceramic and the mouth-blown glass bodies. The glass sphere is available in white or matt grey, the hand-modelled base in grey, white and terracotta.
Designer Kai Linke: Inspiration from nature, art and flea markets
The Dutch-German designer, who has lived in the Netherlands and Japan, founded a studio in Frankfurt am Main in 2009. He has been teaching at the Kunsthochschule Kassel since 2015. In his design process, Kai Linke translates impressions of flea markets, nature or art. The affinity with fine art is evident in his work for Tobias Rehberger or Tomàs Saraceno. However, the most important inspiration comes from the material itself, the sketches, models and studies he creates with his hands.
Pulpo - a German label takes off internationally
Pulpo was founded in 2006 by Ursula and Patrick L'hoste as a design brand at the interface between form and material. The concept of Pulpo is to work on lamps, furniture and accessories according to the designer's choice. The company's focus is on working with emerging designers and selected manufacturers, with the nature of the material forming the basis for evaluation. Materials such as ceramics, stone and especially glass, which has been pulpo's focus since 2013. The designers and artists develop their designs freely and experimentally, attracting great international attention.
