Bright disc: Itka wall lamp by Artemide
The Itka wall or ceiling lamps shine like round, bright suns. They look particularly noble due to the mouth-blown glass used and extremely timeless in their form. The design lamps complement rooms perfectly without overloading them.
Designer Naoto Fukasawa
Naoto Fukasawa was born in Yamanashi in 1956. He studied design at the Tama Art University. Initially, he designed microelectronic devices and watches. He moved to the USA in the late 1980s and joined the international design and innovation consultancy IDEO. At that time, Fukasawa mainly designed computers and electronic devices for the then emerging Silicon Valley. After his return to Japan in 1996, he built up the IDEO office in Tokyo until he founded his own studio in 2003.
His original approach to design has found international acclaim. For him, a simple design symbolises the harmonious relationship between user and object. With his designs, Fukasawa defines the boundaries of the relationship between objects and people. He has received many international awards, e.g. the title Honorable Royal Designer for Industry from the Royal Society of Arts in 2007.
