Frog King: Frog Chair by Richard Lampert
What an expressive chair - the stackable chair designed in 1955 for lecture halls was lovingly christened Frosch by its inventor and designer Herbert Hirche. Its refined details and unusual shape make it an absolute eye-catcher. Already in the 1950s, modified versions of the now well-known classic were on display at the Landesausstellung Bauen und Wohnen in Stuttgart and at the Kieler Wochen.
Designer Herbert Hirche
As one of the most important German architects and designers of the 1950s/60s, Herbert Hirche began his career with an apprenticeship as a carpenter at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin. Among others, he was taught by Kandinsky and Mies van der Rohe, with whom he subsequently also worked in the office. He also worked with Egon Eiermann and Hans Scharoun. In 1948 he was appointed professor at the University of Applied Arts in Berlin-Weissensee and later also at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart.
Material and size
The chair is made of powder-coated tubular steel and varnished moulded birch wood. It is 49 cm wide, 57 cm deep and 78 cm high. The seat height is 45 cm.
