Spring Rite: Easter Witch Vase by Artek
"I'm waving a branch for a fresh and healthy year. A branch for you, a treat for me!" In April, children in Finland welcome the end of winter by dressing up as witches and decorating willow branches with feathers and other decorations. Then they go from house to house and wish their neighbours a healthy New Year. The neighbours say thank you with little treats for the children.
This traditional custom is the source of inspiration for Artek's Easter Witch Vase. The small figure is part of a series of seven hand-made ceramic objects designed by COMPANY for the Artek FIN/JPN Friendship Collection.
Because 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan. Artek, as a typical Finnish company, uses this anniversary to explore the relationship between the two countries and combine them in creative collections.
