Rite of Spring: Easter Witch Vase from Artek
"I wave a twig for a fresh and healthy year. A twig for you, a treat for me! " - In April, children in Finland welcome the end of winter by dressing up as witches and decorating willow branches with feathers and other decorations. Then they go from house to house and wish their neighbours a healthy New Year. The neighbours thank them with small treats for the children.
This traditional custom is the source of inspiration for the Easter Witch vase from Artek. The small figurine is part of a series of seven handmade ceramic objects that COMPANY designed for the Artek FIN/JPN Friendship Collection.
Because 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan. As a typically Finnish company, Artek is using this anniversary to explore the relationship between the two countries and to creative collections with each other in creative collections.
