Iconic design: Eames Plastic Stool Barstool High by Vitra
The Eames Plastic Stools are the result of an innovative extension of the classic Plastic Chairs by Charles and Ray Eames by Vitra. This legendary collection has now been given an exciting barstool version that takes the classic design to new heights. With their organically shaped shells made of recycled plastic and a striking four-legged base, the Plastic Stools not only offer stylish seating, but also a touch of retro charm at your bar or kitchen counter.
The history of the Eames Plastic Chairs
One of the Eames Plastic Chairs, the DAW chair, was presented for the first time in 1948 as part of the "Low Cost Furniture Design" competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where it won second place. Today, the Plastic Chairs have become classics that have become an integral part of private homes and public spaces. And yet the design chairs were a real novelty at the time they were created. The idea of a seat shell made from a single piece and moulded to fit the body was innovative.
"The most of the best to the greatest number of people for the least" - Charles & Ray Eames absolutely lived up to this claim with the Plastic Chairs. The result was the first mass-produced, affordable plastic chairs with an outstanding design. With the Plastic Chairs, Charles & Ray Eames revolutionised the history of furniture in the 1950s. After the war years, society in Europe and the USA was in a state of upheaval. This also had an impact on furnishings and lifestyle. With the DAW and the other Plastic Chairs, Charles & Ray Eames made their contribution to freeing the living space from the prevailing control.
Charles and Ray Eames - design duo
The Eames couple are among the most important personalities in the field of design in the 20th century. In addition to designing furniture, they also made films, took photographs and put together exhibitions. Vitra is the only authorised manufacturer of Eames products for Europe and the Middle East.
Environmentally conscious design for the future: the new RE collection
From January 2024, Vitra will be focussing on sustainability by manufacturing all seat shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs from recycled post-consumer plastic. The seat shells will have minimal glass fibre reinforcement for stability and quality, with the glass fibre content of an Eames Plastic Chair RE seat shell being 10%. The use of recycled packaging waste gives the seat shells minimal colour pigmentation
Material and format
The Plastic Stools by Charles and Ray Eames are made of robust recycled plastic, which is both durable and environmentally friendly. The chrome-plated or black powder-coated four-legged base is stable and ensures a secure footing. The footrest has been specially developed for comfort and durability.
The chair measures 47 cm in width, 54 cm in depth and 120 cm in height. The seat height is 79.5 cm, the seat depth is 47.5 cm and the seat width is 44 cm.
Note: Suitable for outdoor use. Special additives slow down fading caused by UV radiation. If the chair is exposed to the sun for a longer period of time, the colour may still change. You should therefore not expose the chair to the sun for longer than necessary.
