The shape of the DKW Wire Chairs is known as a variation on the Eames Plastic Side Chairs - the wooden base is also well-known, combining industrial charm and cosiness.
The Wire Chairs made of welded steel wire take up the theme of the organically shaped and one-piece seat shell of their plastic relatives and refine it through the expression of their transparency and technical sophistication.
Due to the shape of its upholstery, the DKW-2 is often referred to as a "bikini".
Charles and Ray Eames - design duo
The Eames couple are among the most important personalities in the field of design in the 20th century. In addition to designing furniture, they also made films, took photographs and put together exhibitions. Vitra is the only authorised manufacturer of Eames products for Europe and the Middle East.
Material and format
The DKW2 is a chair with seat and backrest upholstery that can be removed and reattached, in Hopsak fabric or leather. It is 49 cm wide, 51 cm deep and 85 cm high. Its seat height is 43 cm. The design chair is made of moulded and welded steel wire. The frame is made of maple wood with struts made of round steel. The wood comes from Western Europe and/or Poland.
