Designer Ernesto Gismondi
Ernesto Gismondi was born in Sanremo in 1931 and graduated in aeronautical engineering at the Polytechnic in Milan in 1957. He also graduated in 1959 in rocket engineering from the Professional School of Engineering in Rome. Since the early 1960s, however, he dedicated himself to the planning and production of luminaires and founded the Artemide Group together with Sergio Mazza. Over time, he established himself as an international designer and participated as one of the inventors in "Memphis", an avant-garde movement that caused a profound development in the design world, both in Italy and worldwide. in 2018, he won the Compasso D'Oro for Lifetime Achievement.
