ames - design that supports!

All products manufactured by ames are created in partnership with Colombian craftsmen. The skill, the knowledge and the care of the artesanos and artesanas ensure the exceptional quality of the designer furniture and accessories. The small and family-run ateliers manufacture by hand with raw materials mostly sourced from the country . For example, the PVC cords for the furniture of the manufacturer are made from recycled plastic.

Complex weaving

Compared to the other design furniture of the manufacturer, the Dichas Natural series by ames is rather clear and simple - but no less impressive! Not least because of the lengthy and artful weaving process behind the pieces in the Dichas series. Instead of the colourful PVC cords, high-quality willow rods from bejuco roots are used here. This plant grows in the Eje Cafetero, the coffee-growing region of Colombia. The coffee pickers use it to make their baskets for collecting the beans.

The bejuco roots are dried in the sun and prepared for ten days to separate the bark from the inner, softer fibres . Then, using a complex weaving technique from the Santa Marta region, the roots are woven by hand by the Colombian artesanos and artesanas into a particularly dense mesh around the coloured steel frame. This process can take up to five days.

Version 1 of the Dichas basket measures W 55 x D 38 x H 55 cm. The tubular steel frame is available in three colour variations.
