Charm of the 60s: Colombo floor lamp by Oluce
Joe Colombo designed the Colombo series of lamps in 1970, on the wave of the rapid spread of halogen light. Thus, the floor lamp is among the first household lamps that used this new type of bulb. With its adjustable reflector and simple design that combines materials such as chrome and steel, Colombo meets the demands of the time for clear forms and functionality - and thus embodies the forward-looking visions of the designer.
For the 50th anniversary, in memory of Joe Colombo, the Colombo series has been relaunched by Oluce in a modern LED dimmer version. Visionary genius - Joe Colombo
Joe Colombo remains one of the greatest Italian designers of our time - a genius who firmly believed in an anti-nostalgic future, in which intelligent technology would support every human activity and lay the foundations for entirely new models of living.
It's no surprise, then, that Colombo's architectural, furniture, and lighting designs were considered forward-thinking and particularly functional. His designs include, for example, the so-called "living cells", all with their own function, such as the "Night-Cell" block (bed+wardrobes+bathroom) or the "Kitchen-Box" (kitchen+dining room). His designed houses, in which floors and ceilings rise and fall, in which shelves hang from above and lights are recessed deep into the floor, united his vision of the future.
Through Colombo, design classics emerged that incorporated the use of new materials and new technologies. One need only think of the 1968 spray-print chair for Kartell or the 1962 Acrilica table lamp, Colombo's first project for Oluce. In addition, the designer has created a variety of other lamps for Oluce, for example, the Fresnel or the Coupé series. Even today, 50 years after his passing, many of his products continue to exist and inspire with the charm of the 60s and their trendsetting features.
Oluce - luminaire design made in Italy
Founded in 1945 by Giuseppe Ostuni, Oluce is the oldest Italian design company still active in the lighting world. The product portfolio is characterized by excellence and innovation.
