Rich in tradition: China Chair by Fritz Hansen
Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1944, the China Chair stands out in the Fritz Hansen collection as the only chair made entirely of solid wood. In his design, the designer was inspired by the timeless aesthetics of 17th and 18th century Chinese design. In his modern interpretation of ancient Chinese chairs, Wegner unleashes his talent as a wood craftsman and his flair for expressive, sculptural functionalism.
The designer took many years to perfect his China Chair. As a result, a number of designs were created, with this version being the only one to prevail and is still produced by Fritz Hansen today. In 2008, the chair was introduced in a new black version.
The classic mix of wood and leather reinforces the traditional character of the design. Whether warm cherry or black ash, the China Chair adds a high-end aesthetic to office environments as well as dining and lounge areas. The included leather seat cushion provides the necessary comfort.
Hans J. Wegner - representative of Danish Modernism
Hans J. Wegner is a world-renowned cabinetmaker and furniture designer and one of the main representatives of "Danish Modern". Wegner is a meticulous and admired craftsman and his furniture is a combination of good, solid details rooted in the tradition of cabinetmaking that he holds in high esteem.
Material and format
China Chair has the dimensions W 55 x D 55 x H 82 cm. It has a 45 cm high seat, the armrest height is 68 cm.
The seat is available in two types of solid wood: natural cherry and black colored ash. The chair has a reversible seat cushion with leather cover and leather buttons. Leather covers
- Aura: thickness 1,4-1,6 mm. Chrome-tanned, finished and hard-wearing surface with strong grain. High light fastness.
- Embrace: thickness 1,2-1,4 mm. Chrome tanned, grained, exceptional soft aniline with special waxing for a slightly oily surface. Visible natural features (e.g. neck wrinkles).
- Grace: thickness approx. 1.4-1.6 mm. Vegetable & chrome tanned aniline leather, full grain, light texture and light impregnation. Becomes lighter with use and gets patin. Visible natural characteristics.
- Natural: thickness 1.2-1.4 mm. Vegetable-tanned, completely chrome-free natural leather without color or protective varnish. Darkens with use and acquires patina. Visible natural characteristics.
- Rustic: thickness 1.2-1.4 mm. Vegetable-tanned, completely chrome-free aniline leather without protective varnish with a light impregnation and visible natural features. Becomes lighter with use and acquires patina.
Note: Please note that leather is a natural product with natural color and surface structure deviations. To a small extent, scars and the like occur in leather, which are typical for genuine leather.
