Dynamic and timeless: The CH78 Mama Bear Lounge Chair by Carl Hansen & Søn
Today affectionately known as the Mama Bear armchair, the CH78 lounge chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1954 and is thus an extension of the CH71 Mini Bear armchair from 1952. The soft curves paired with dynamic geometric shapes are the result of functional and beautifully designed craftsmanship. With its gentle lightness, the armchair offers ergonomic comfort that encourages relaxation.
Scandinavian design thought out and perfectly shaped by Hans J. Wegner
The Danish furniture designer is often called the master of chairs - and it's no coincidence. During his career he has created almost 500 chairs, and many masterpieces have been created. Wegner tried to bring out the soul of the furniture pieces through simplicity and functionality.
Material and format
Seat and backrest are made of solid beech wood and foam. Legs and armrests are made of solid and oiled oak wood.
Carl Hansen only uses wood from sustainable forestry for its durable designer furniture, which is processed in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The frame, armrests and legs are therefore made of solid FSC®-certified wood to ensure stability. The oak wood used is sourced directly from Denmark.
The armchair has a width of 84cm, a depth of 80cm and a height of 106cm. The seat height is 40cm.
