Fairytale: The Cecilia thermo mug in black by Bjørn Wiinblad
Bjørn Wiinblad' s romantic signature can also be seen on this thermo mug. The detailed female figure, framed by delicate flowers and small birds, is one of the most famous designs of the Danish artist. The motif is applied by hand to the plain white cup. As a double-walled thermo cup, Cecilia keeps tea and coffee warm for a particularly long time and prevents burning.
Designer Bjørn Wiinblad
Bjørn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen in 1918. He already showed a distinct talent for imaginative worlds at an early age. He first began an apprenticeship as a typographer at the age of 17, but quickly realised that his interest lay in an artistic career. After his apprenticeship, he went directly to the Royal Danish Academy of Art and chose the graphic arts department there. Wiinblad's style was anything but Danish, for where functionalism was en vogue at the time, the designer chose a more playful path with ruffled motifs, many colours and romantic universes. Thus, he also devoted himself to drawing on ceramics for which he is known today. in 1957 Wiinblad became head of design for the well-known German porcelain brand Rosenthal.
