Theatrical: The Betty Bench by &Tradition
This beautiful piece of furniture was named after the traditional Betty Nansen Theater in the western center of Copenhagen - an extraordinary building, which was directed by actress Betty Nansen from 1917 to 1943 and originally consisted of a simple wooden construction.
Thau & Kallio wanted to create an elegant seating arrangement inspired by the wooden pavilion where the old theater stage was located. Betty's solid oak frame is also the frame for the wide linen bands, which are woven by hand to create a robust and comfortable seat. The result is a bench that can be used in any room of the house and sets modern accents.
Thau & Kallio - Design and craftsmanship
What unites the Swede Jakob Thau and the Finn Sami Kallio? The two designers not only have degrees from renowned Scandinavian design colleges, but are also trained carpenters. This understanding of materials and their craftsmanship is clearly visible in the designs of Thau & Kallio. At the same time, they succeed in placing classical forms in a contemporary context. Wood is and always will be the material of choice. Despite extraordinary details, their designs always reach a wide audience.
Material and Format
The Betty Bench by &Tradition is made of linen fabric and lacquered oak wood (available in different colors). Betty is delivered with felt gliders as standard. The bench is available in two different sizes:
