Makes for a rubdown: the Alba truffle slicer UNS04 from Alessi. What could be better than refining your pasta with the spicy and rarely found mushroom? As with many foods, fresh is best. The commercially available products such as truffle butter are therefore only a poor compromise.

The design
We have the Dutch architect Ben van Berkel to thank for the design. He founded the architectural office UNStudio together with Caroline Bos in 1998. Ben van Berkel also teaches as a professor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt am Main. "The design of the 'Alba' is inspired by the interweaving of the tree roots with the root tuber."
Material and format
The design truffle slicer is made of shiny polished 18/10 stainless steel. The angle of inclination between the handle and the blade is 18 degrees, which makes truffle slicing a pleasant process, as minimises pressure on the wrist. Alba by Alessi is 20 cm long, 8.5 cm wide as well as 8 cm high.
Truffle
Quite a lot of effort is put into finding the noble mushroom. Pigs or dogs are trained to sniff out the truffle with their fine nose. The truffle is a tubular mushroom and cannot be cultivated, which is why it is so expensive. There are black and white truffles, the latter of which should not be heated but only grated raw over food.
