Graphic expression: AJ Oxford 410 table lamp by Louis Poulsen

The AJ Oxford table lamp impresses with its modernistic style. Originally, the lamp was designed in 1963 for St. Catherine's College in Oxford by the architect and product designer Arne Jacobsen. There, it is firmly integrated into the tables of the impressive dining hall and still provides light today. With its graphic expression and the monochrome colouring, the AJ Oxford is timeless and can be integrated effortlessly into existing furnishing styles.

Designer Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacob sen was born in Copenhagen in 1902 . Already as a child he showed a distinct talent for drawing. From this grew his desire to turn his talent into a profession and become a painter. His father, however, thought architect was a more suitable choice and so Jacobsen acquired the necessary know-how on his travels. An apprenticeship as a bricklayer in Germany and a series of study and drawing excursions to Italy formed the basis.
If one wants to classify Arne Jacobsen, one can see him in the field of modern functionalism. His designs are influenced by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus. His most famous works include, for example, the "Ant" and "Swan" chairs and the AJ pendant lamps designed for Louis Poulsen, the Bellevue Theatre and also Denmark's National Bank.

Material and format

The AJ Oxford table lamp is made of three-layered and mouth-blown opal glass as well as wet lacquered stand and shade made of steel. Another detail: the cap nut and knurled screw made of untreated brass with a fine, clockwise running line structure. This special feature causes a patina to form on the untreated brass over time. The lamp measures 22 cm in diameter and 41.3 cm in height. The lamp weighs 1kg.
