Efficient and modern: AJ Floor lamp Louis Poulsen
Designed in 1957, the AJ floor lamp has since developed into a modern lighting classic. The original design was intended for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. However, Arne Jacobsen designed much more than just the AJ floor lamp - he designed the entire building, including the interior. The result was one of the first design hotels in the world.
The AJ floor lamp was a welcome addition, blending perfectly into the interior with its minimalist, light and airy design.
Material and functionality
Thanks to the perfectly designed lampshade, the floor lamp provides absolutely glare-free light. This makes the designer lamp the perfect reading light or chic mood light. Practical: The asymmetrically designed lampshade can be swivelled. This allows the luminous flux to be directed perfectly. The inside of the shade is painted white.
While the lampshade and frame are made of powder-coated steel, the lamp base is made of sturdy die-cast zinc. This gives the AJ designer light a secure stand. The circular recess in the lamp base contributes to the airy design - legend has it that Arne Jacobsen planned an insert for an ashtray here.
