Timeless: 60 Stool Artek
The design classic from Finland still cuts a fine figure today, a good 80 years after its first appearance! Designed by Alvar Aalto in the 1930s, the 60 Stool by Artek is still made of solid birch veneer and bent and glued in a special process to create a visual unit. Ingenious pioneer in furniture design: architect and designer Alvar Aalto
Alvar Aalto is considered one of the best designers and architects worldwide. Already in the 1930s, the Finn amazed with constructions that are still indispensable in the furniture industry today. Aalto is also the pioneer par excellence in laminated wood processing. Influenced by the German Bauhaus, he experimented with this material since the end of the 1920s and, together with his wife Aino Aalto, created numerous pieces of furniture that combined modern forms with natural materials. His architectural masterpieces include the Paimio Clinic in Turku (now a World Heritage Site), the library in Viipuri (in what is now Russia) and the Finnish pavilion at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
Artek - always modern
Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl. With their designs, they wanted to promote a modern culture of living. The radical spirit of its founders still lives in Artek today and so the company produces furniture from the world of modern design that stands at the interface of design, architecture and art. They are characterised by clarity, functionality and poetic simplicity.
Material and format
The design stool by Artek is made of solid, stained birch wood, the seat of birch veneer. Legs and seat are natural lacquered, the seat is available in different colours. Whether in black, white, yellow, green or orange - this stool is beautiful in every colour and can also be combined well in a whole group. The 60 Artek stools are stackable up to ten pieces. They have a diameter of 44 cm and are 38 cm high.
