Nicknamed "Tank": 400 Armchair Tank Artek

The 400 design armchair by Artek with the nickname "Tank" lives up to it - the beefy armchair definitely attracts attention. Designed in 1936 by the Finnish designer Alvar Aalto for the Milan Triennale, the 400 armchair became one of the milestones in furniture design. The deep seat is especially comfortable and promises a particularly comfortable sitting experience. Of course, the upholstery, which is outstanding for an armchair, also contributes to this, as it is additionally equipped with zigzag springs. The award-winning, powerful  armchair retains the airiness and elegance that characterise Alvar Aalto's furniture thanks to the curved lines of the armrests. The great Finnish cult armchair is available with black or clear lacquered chair legs and with different fabric and leather covers in the cover colour cream white.

Artek - always modern

Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl. With their designs, they wanted to promote a modern culture of living. The radical spirit of its founders still lives in Artek today and so the company produces furniture from the world of modern design that stands at the interface of design, architecture and art. They are characterised by clarity, functionality and poetic simplicity.

Material and format

The design armchair by Artek made of birch wood and upholstery in the colour cream is available in the fabrics Remix (90% wool, 10% polyamide), the fabric Hallingdal (70% virgin wool, 30% viscose) and the fabric Steelcut Trio (90% virgin wool, 10% polyamide) as well as in the leather Sörensen Prestige (black pigmented leather) and the leather Sörensen Elegance (walnut-coloured leather). The upholstery consists of Nosag springs, PU foam and Dacron. The 400 Tank armchair by Artek is 77 cm wide, 77 cm deep and 65 cm high. The seat height is 37 cm.
