Designer Norman Foster and the Emeco Collection 20-06
They met by chance in a lift in Chicago: John Small, director of Foster and Partners, and Gregg Buchbinder of Emeco - in retrospect, a fantastic coincidence. Because the collaboration produced the 20-06 collection, which made it into the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in London. Tables and chairs, technically sophisticated down to the last detail, cool and with a deliberately anonymous appearance, that's how Norman Foster describes his design. The sustainability concept of Emeco and the material used, consisting of recycled aluminium, fits in with this. Emeco uses 80 per cent recycled aluminium, which requires only five per cent of the energy to manufacture as does the production from new aluminium.
