EOOS - Designer trio with a penchant for Greek mythology?
The Austrian designer trio EOOS consists of Gernot Bohmann (born 1968 in Krieglach/Styria), Harald Gründl (born 1967 in Vienna) and Martin Bergmann (born 1963 in Lienz/Tyrol). They knew each other from their studies at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and their common interest in furniture and product design led to the founding of EOOS in 1995. In their studio in Vienna they work for world-famous manufacturers such as Giorgio Armani, Adidas, Alessi, Bene, Bulthaupt and Matteo Grassi.
A successful collaboration connects EOOS above all with the manufacturer Walter Knoll. For Walter Knoll, EOOS developed, among other things, the Jason series, consisting of various cantilever chairs, bar stools and armchairs. The comfortable upholstered bench Together was also a great success. EOOS also made a name for itself by publishing two books: "The Death of Fashion" and "The Cooked Kitchen", both published by Springer Verlag Vienna New York.
The works of the three Viennese were awarded almost 50 prizes. For example, in 2004 they won the Compasso d`Oro for their seating system for public spaces or congress halls "Kube". It is interesting how Bohmann, Gründl and Bergmann chose the name EOOS. By chance, an edition of Ovid's "Metamorphoses" was lying in their office. In the index of names the three discovered the name EOOS: one of the four horses that pulled the chariot of the sun god Helios. For the three Viennese, EOOS riding is a metaphor for their daily balancing act as designers: anything can happen between being burned and being lost.
