Regal: Cartagenas Natural Reina Chair ames
The Cartagenas Natural series by ames is rather clear and simple compared to the manufacturer's other design furniture - but no less impressive! Not least because of the lengthy and artful weaving process behind the pieces in the Cartagenas series.
Instead of the colourful PVC cords, high-quality willow rods from bejuco roots are used here. This plant grows in the Eje Cafetero, the coffee-growing region of Colombia. The people of the region use it to make baskets for collecting coffee beans.
For the royal outdoor chair Reina, they now use this very material. For this, the roots of the bejuco are dried in the sun and prepared for ten days to separate the bark from the inner, softer fibres. Then the roots are woven by hand by the Colombian artesanos and artesanas using a complex weaving technique from the Santa Marta region into a particularly dense mesh around the steel frame. This process can take up to five days.

All products manufactured by ames are created in partnership with Colombian craftsmen. The skill, knowledge and care of the artesanos and artesanas ensure the exceptional quality of the design furniture and accessories. The small and family-run ateliers manufacture by hand with raw materials mostly sourced from the country . For example, the PVC cords for the furniture of the manufacturer are made from recycled plastic.
Material and format
The Reina chair is made of wicker from a galvanised powder-coated tubular steel frame and a seat and back made of woven bejuco root. It is 90 cm wide, 82.3 cm deep and 155 cm high.
